[hif-net-at-who] Publications in local languages
[Note from HIF-net-at-WHO moderator: The following message is a response
to Venkatachalam Lakshminarayanan, India, "Importance of textbooks (8)",
15 December 2004]
As we indicated in our Letter to the Editor of Lancet (November 13, 2004)
access is not the only problem, costs and language are major barriers.
Free access is not the answer unless someone is very generous and pays for
it (and for the whole poor world there is no one to do that).
Governments and medical insurance companies and other employers of health
professionals have an obligation to educate and insure education if they
want quality of medical practice.
Finally, the must be regional publications, in local language, that cover
the important literature.
