I don't understand this usage of "disruptive." A disruption is an event
that throws the existing order into a state of confusion or disturbance.
How does Wiki, as supposedly disruptive technology, do that? Wiki
provides new collaboration tools based on a new model that enhances and
extends rather than disrupting other efforts. And compared to e-mail and
lists such as this one, it's hardly low-end.

RESEARCH LIBRARIAN FOR
CHEMISTRY AND EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE

The University of California, Irvine Libraries are seeking a Research
Librarian for Chemistry and Earth System Science to join an enthusiastic
staff in building a research library of excellence for a young and
rapidly-growing university ranked among the top in the nation.
Specializing in chemistry and earth system science (the scientific
understanding of the earth as a coupled system of atmosphere, ocean, and
land) the research librarian will perform a combination of collection
development, reference, and instructional duties related to those areas,
with the possible opportunity of covering chemical engineering and
materials science as well. (Descriptions of UCI's programs in these
areas follow in an Appendix to this posting.)

The home library department will be the Science Library Reference
Department; the position will report primarily to the Head of Science
Library Reference and secondarily to the Head of Collection Development.

Responsibilities

Collection development and management:

Selects, assesses, and manages collections and resources in the subject
areas of chemistry and earth system science, and possibly also chemical
engineering and materials science. Monitors budgets and makes
collections decisions that support the teaching and research needs on
campus. Provides subject-based instruction and research consultations.
Develops and updates subject webpages and bibliographies in support of
research in the subject areas. Serves as liaison to the faculty and
students in the subject areas to insure that their information needs are
being met as well as to promote the Libraries' services and resources.

Reference and research activities:

Provides from eight to twelve hours of reference service weekly,
including responding to in-person, telephone and electronic inquiries.
Provides individual research consultations. Develops web-based guides
and tutorials.

Instruction:

Provides and promotes specialized instruction services to students and
faculty in chemistry and earth system science. Participates in the
Libraries' information literacy initiatives and general education
programs to assist campus and community users in improving their critical
thinking, information-seeking, and research skills.

Qualifications

Required:

� graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited
institution or an equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree and
library experience

� educational background in chemistry or earth system science or
experience performing reference, instruction and/or collection
development for these subjects in an academic library, research library,
or corporate research environment

� demonstrated understanding of the information needs of
scientists and engineers and their use of chemistry or earth system
science information resources.

� strong interest in working with students and faculty

� commitment to user-centered library services

� strong interest in library information, instructional
technology and electronic resources, especially in chemistry and earth
system science

The Libraries

The UCI Libraries are in a major period of growth and consist of the
Langson Library, the Science Library, and the Grunigen Medical Library.
The Langson Library primarily serves the Schools of Humanities, Arts,
Social Sciences, Social Ecology, the Graduate School of Management, the
Department of Education, and Interdisciplinary Studies. The Science
Library primarily serves the College of Medicine and the Schools of
Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Information and
Computer Sciences, and the Department of Statistics. The Grunigen
Medical Library serves the UCI Medical Center, located in Orange, 12
miles from the main campus.

The UCI Libraries have a staff of 273 FTE and an organizational structure
that includes the use of teams in conjunction with departments. The
library collection consists of over 2.3 million volumes and over 25,000
current serial titles, a substantial microform collection, and an
aggressively expanding electronic resources collection. The UCI
Libraries are a member of the: Association of Research Libraries (ARL),
California Digital Library (CDL), Coalition of Networked Information
(CNI), Center for Research Libraries (CRL), Council on Library and
Information Resources (CLIR), International Federation of Library
Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and Scholarly Publishing & Academic
Resources Coalition (SPARC).

University of California, Irvine

One of ten University of California campuses, the University of
California, Irvine, is nestled in 1,500 acres of coastal foothills, five
miles from the Pacific Ocean, between San Diego and Los Angeles. UCI is
among the fastest-growing University of California campuses, with more
than 24,000 undergraduate and graduate students and about 1,400 faculty
members. Student enrollment is expected to reach 30,000 by 2010
accompanied by a proportional growth in faculty. Nearly 60% of UCI
students identify themselves as Asian-American, African-American,
Chicano/Latino, or Native American. The University offers 40 doctoral
programs in addition to the M.D.

Founded in 1965, UCI has had an extraordinarily rapid rise to distinction

Librarians at the University of California, Irvine are academic
appointees and receive potential career status at the time of their
initial appointment. Librarians are periodically subject to
administrative and peer review for merit increases based on the following
criteria: 1) professional competence and quality of service within the
Library; 2) professional activity outside the Library; 3) university and
public service; and 4) research and other creative activity. They are
entitled to two days per month of annual leave, one day per month sick
leave, reductions in instructional fees, and all other perquisites
granted to non-faculty academic personnel. The University has an
excellent retirement system and sponsors a variety of group life and
health insurance plans. Benefits are equal to approximately 40% of
salary.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience within a range
of $37,920 - $76,860 (Assistant Librarian I - Librarian III).

Appendix: Description of UCI's Programs

The Chemistry Department has a prominent undergraduate program and is the
second largest producer of chemistry majors in the nation. The department
is renowned for its interdisciplinary graduate training, in Chemical &
Materials Physics, Atmospheric & Environmental Chemistry , and Chemical
Biology, as well as the traditional fields of Analytical, Inorganic,
Organic and Physical Chemistry. The 1995 Nobel Prize in Atmospheric
Chemistry was won by Professor F. S. Rowland, the founding Chair of the
Department. And the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Ernie
Rose, a researcher in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics.

The Department of Earth System Science focuses on the atmosphere, land
and oceans, how they interact as a system, and how the earth will change
over a human lifetime. The department has earned a reputation as one of
the most influential academic departments in the nation devoted to
studying the earth as a system. UC Irvine is the university with the
greatest impact on geoscience research in the mid-1990s, according to a
national publisher of research databases.

The Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Department focuses on
complex problems in chemical engineering and materials science with
emphasis on advances in biochemical engineering, biomedical engineering,
and nanotechnology.

Dear

I am Mrs Martha Haafken from Austria. I am married to Dr.Franklyn Peter
Haafken who worked with ChevronTexaco Oil in South African for twenty five
years, before he died in Banda Aceh coastal region of Indonesia when we both
went for holidays in Indonesia before the tsunami earthquake in Asia. He
died immediately from the wave of the flood due to the tsunami earthquake.
We were married for twenty-seven years without a child. He died during
tsunami earthquake in Indonesia . Before his death we were both born again
christians.Since his dead, I am enable to speak and walk due to many
complications which I have during the flood and his dead. When my late
husband was alive he deposited the sum of (8.6 Million) (Eight Million six
hundred thousand dollars)with a security company here in Europe. Presently,
this money is still with the security company and the management just wrote
me as the beneficiary to come forward to receive the money or rather issue a
letter of authorisation to somebody to receive it on my behalf if I can not
come over. Presently, I'm with my laptop in an hospital where I have been
undergoing treatment for my legs which got broken during the flooding and
other complications. I have since lost my ability to talk and my doctors
have told me that I will needs to stay some more times in the hospital due
to so many complications. . It is my last wish to see that this money is
invested the proceed at the end of every year distributed among charity
organisation, tsunami victims, I want a person that is God fearing that will
use this money to fund churches,orphanages and widows propagating the word
of God and to ensure that the house of God is maintained, that is the reason
