LLOYD'S OF LONDON TO OFFER OPEN SOURCE RISK INSURANCE. Lloyd's of London, an insurance underwriter, plans to offer open source risk insurance, protecting clients from the IP litigation risks associated with the use of open source software.

UK OPEN SOURCE SURVEY SHOWS FUTURE TREND IN OPEN SOURCE ADOPTION. Atos Origin, an IT services company, in conjunction with the UK National Computing Centre (NCC), releases the results of a survey with more than two-thirds of the participating 140 senior IT professionals expecting their companies to develop an open source strategy in the next five years.

IBM CONTRIBUTES CODE TO MOZILLA FIREFOX. IBM announces the contribution of accessibility and rich Internet application code to the Mozilla Foundation for future releases of the Firebox browser.

JBOSS LAUNCHES J2EE MIGRATION PROGRAM. JBoss, an open source middleware software company, announces the launch of their JBoss Migration Program. The new migration program includes a standardized assessment and implementation methodology to aid clients moving from proprietary application server technology to the open source JBoss platform.

FIREFOX LOSES GROUND TO INTERNET EXPLORER. NetApplications, a web measurement and tools company, releases the browser market share data for July, showing the first ever decrease in Firefox usage versus Internet Explorer. Firefox browser market share slipped from 8.71% in June to 8.07% in July.
